Published on 16 July 2020

On 14 July 2020, the NSW Medical Council made a decision to lift Dr Timothy Robert Steel’s suspension from practising medicine. This took effect on 15 July 2020.

This follows an application by Dr Steel for his suspension to be removed. The Council also imposed a number of conditions on Dr Steel’s medical registration which the practitioner must comply with. These conditions are not publicly available due to privacy reasons.

Details of Dr Timothy Steel’s current medical registration status are available online via the Australian Register of Practitioners. The conditions on Dr Steel’s registration will remain in place pending a referral and consultation with the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC).

The Council will not be making any further public comments at this time.

Background

The Medical Council works in collaboration with the HCCC to receive and manage complaints about registered doctors and medical students in NSW. The Council’s paramount legal obligation is to protect the public. It deals with doctors whose conduct, performance or health may represent a risk to the public.

We do this by assessing complaints, promoting compliance with professional standards and delivering programs to ensure doctors provide safe care to their patients.
