Getting support
We know it is stressful to have a complaint made about you – and you should know you’re not alone. Many practitioners will receive at least one complaint over a 30-year career but only a small percentage of complaints will require further action and even fewer will result in suspension or prosecution.
When Health Professional Councils and the HPCA manage a complaint, we’re mindful of the impact it has on both the public and the practitioner. Our goals of protecting public health and safety and supporting practitioners through the process with compassion aren’t at odds – they go hand in hand.
We take complaints seriously and address them thoroughly. The right to raise concerns about healthcare is fundamental to preserving public trust and confidence in the system and health professionals.
