Regulation in Leadership Program (RiLP)
The Regulation in Leadership Program (RiLP) is a 3‑month paid development program for nurses and midwives who want to grow as leaders.
It gives 2 participants the chance to step into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW (NMC) and see how regulation works from the inside.
The program involves a full‑time NMC secondment. Participants learn how we assess risk and manage complaints in line with NSW law and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia professional standards. They also observe hearings, help prepare reports, and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from practitioners and complainants to employers and other co-regulators.

The program is for experienced nurses and midwives who already lead teams or support professional practice. It suits people who are curious about regulation, patient safety, and how professional standards shape everyday care.
What you’ll learn
By the end of the program, participants gain a strong understanding of the professional practice framework, better skills in assessing risk, and practical strategies for building safe workplace cultures. They also develop a plan to help strengthen professional practice in their workplace.
