Common complaints we receive
Complaints during 2024‒25

What does the data show?
There were 42,885 registered practitioners in NSW in 2024–25. During that period, we received 3,270 complaints about 2,570 practitioners. This represents 5.99% of registered medical practitioners in NSW
Most complaints in the 2024–25 reporting year were about clinical care (1,604 complaints) followed by complaints about medication (319 complaints).
These patterns are similar to previous years.
We look at complaint trends to help us see issues that may affect public safety. This supports our work to promote safe, high-quality care. Even though clinical care issues were the largest group, the overall rate of complaints remains low compared to the number of registered practitioners.
There were 6,190 registered medical students in NSW, and we received 5 complaints about them. Complaints about students are rare, but they do occur.
