Self-reporting

Registered health practitioners or students have a legal obligation to tell the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) when certain events happen.

You must self-report to Ahpra if you are:

You must tell Ahpra within 7 days once you know about a relevant event or charge.

You can find out more about self-reporting certain events on the Ahpra website.

What happens next?

Ahpra will refer self-reports from NSW practitioners to the Health Professional Councils Authority and the Health Care Complaints Commission.

If one of the Health Professional Councils is handling your matter, it will consider your individual case in the same way as any other complaint. The decision will depend on the circumstances, and you will always get an opportunity to respond. The Council will explain the decision to you and tell you what you need to do next.
