Second Edition of the Professional Conduct Case Book

On 3 June 2010 the Second Edition of the 'Professional Conduct - A Case Book of Disciplinary Decisions Relating to Professional Conduct Matters' was launched by Her Excellency, the Governor of New South Wales, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO.

The book explains the protective jurisdiction of the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991 (NSW) as it was prior to National Registration on July 1 and how a complaint was dealt with from its inception to completion, to assist the reader to understand the way in which the disciplinary processes are carried out.

It incorporated matters dealt with by the then Nurses and Midwives Tribunals, Professional Standards Committees and Supreme Court from 1999 to 2006. The book is a valuable resource for nurses, midwives, educators, the legal profession and the public.

The Second Edition of the Professional Conduct - A Case Book of Disciplinary Decisions Relating to Professional Conduct Matters can be purchased by filling in the order form below and returning this with payment by credit card, cheque or money order.

First Edition of the Professional Conduct Case Book

In April 1999, the Nurses Registration Board of New South Wales invited tenders to review professional conduct matters referred to Nurses Tribunals and Professional Standards Committees by the Nurses Registration Board (NRB), and to develop case studies for educational purposes.

The resulting book sets out to explain the workings of the protective jurisdiction of the Nurses Act 1991 (NSW). Its purpose is to provide information for nurses, other health care professionals and consumers of health care about the way in which complaints about nurses are managed in New South Wales. In order to assist those groups to understand the way in which the disciplinary processes of the NRB are carried out, the book is structured to follow a complaint from its inception to completion.

Separate chapters address particular complaints which may be made about registered nurses, midwives and enrolled nurses.

The book is the result of a project carried out for the Nurses Registration Board by Professors Diana Keatinge and Mary Chiarella.

A summary of all the cases appears in the appendix at the back of this book, providing the reader with a brief overview of the facts and decisions of each case.

The book is no longer in print but a copy can be downloaded from the link below.
