Council's Goals

The Nursing and Midwifery Council will:

1. provide an effective and efficient system for the management of complaints and monitoring of conditions on the registration of nurses and midwives;

2. establish and maintain effective communication interactions with relevant statutory bodies and professional organisations;

3. be attuned to the public expectations of contemporary health care and aware of the standards and scope of practice developed by the nursing and midwifery professions in response to these expectations;

4. attend to complaints and communications in a timely, ethical, just, clear, transparent and respectful fashion;

5. contribute to professional frameworks and influence and contribute to public discussion and health policy related to public health and safety;

6. increase the awareness of the role of the Nursing and Midwifery Council to all relevant stakeholders;

7. communicate the role of the Nursing and Midwifery Council to nurses and midwives as a proactive and supportive organisation;

8. conduct research in the field of regulation to build the body of knowledge about health, performance and conduct to inform the Council’s activities;

9. promote educational activities for improvement of the management of health, performance and conduct matters;

10. ensure financial probity and effective governance, risk management and quality assurance.
