Committees, Panels and Tribunals

Bodies established by the National Law (NSW)

The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) establishes bodies to assist in the regulation of nursing and midwifery in NSW. These include:

NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal

As of 1 January 2014, nursing and midwifery matters are dealt with by the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Committees assisting the Council in the exercise of its functions

Section 41F of the National Law (NSW) allows the Nursing and Midwifery Council to establish committees or panels to assist it in connection with the exercise of its functions.

The roles and responsibilities of such committees are determined by Council. The Council appoints members of committees. The membership of the committees often consists of members of the Council but non-council members may also be appointed if specific expertise or qualifications are required. The Council has determined that the President is an ex officio member of all Council sub-committees. More information about these committees is provided here.
